Get Up and Go Smoothie

My husband and I used to be big Diet Coke drinkers. I have given it up, in part because a friend of mine whose mother had just died of cancer, told me that her mother's oncologist said two big things you can do to eliminate your risk of developing cancer are to eliminate plastic containers and artificial sweeteners from your life. I got rid of all the plastic when my first baby was born. That was right when all of the BPA/Pthalate buzz was beginning. Diet Coke was much harder but I won the battle!

My husband is still struggling. It is his only source of caffeine as he is not a tea or coffee drinker. We all know how much caffeine is appreciated when the kids are wee ones, as our are. I came up with this smoothie for him as a way to help get his energy going without the caffeine or the soda. He says it works. My kids love it too and it sure is an easy thing to serve them on a busy morning. I throw it all together at night then just whizz it up in the blender in the morning.

Get Up and Go Smoothie

6 oz calcium fortified orange juice or your favorite milk, if using a non-dairy milk I would suggest an unflavored one
2 scoops of protein powder
2 T acai juice
1 T unsweetened pomegranite juice
1 t fish oil (or flax oil)
1/2 C frozen mixed berries
1 packet of berry flavored amazing grass greens mix

Throw it all in a blender and blend! Yum!
